DSWD FO VIII EPAHP RPMO Validation: One Barangay, One Gulay of Arteche, Eastern Samar, A DSWD-GAling Pook - Walang Gutom Award Nominee

Considered one of the best strategies in crop farming sustainability and sufficiency, the "One Barangay, One Gulay" of Arteche, Eastern Samar was selected to become one of the nominees for the Walang Gutom Award 2024.

Documented and validated last March 8, 2024, the One Barangay, One Gulay Project of LGU Arteche Eastern Samar composed of 16 farmers associations. The practiced diversification of Agri-livelihood enterprise by venturing hog fattening and egg layering. Mentee of Galing Pook Foundation through a series of virtual modular coaching and an entry to the Walang Gutom Award (WGA) 2024. The activity provided the EPAHP RPMO FO VIII being the lead agency in the IATF-ZH and EPAHP a vivid picture of the strategy, wherein each barangay should plant one variety of vegetables.

The LGU is relentless in its pursuit to become sufficient in agriculture products and is supported by its Local Chief Executive. The "One Barangay, One Gulay," dismisses the concern of overproduction and ensures the availability of a certain vegetable within the LGU. During the interview with its Municipal Agriculture Officer, it was found out that their program made them not to rely on other municipalities for Agri products as their produce provided their constituent's needs for the commodities.

Currently, the DSWD in partnership with the Galing Pook Foundation to create a sustainable and effective plan for their agriculture and fisheries programs, selected the LGU as one of the nominees for the Walang Gutom Award (WGA) 2024. This proves the LGUs' political will to address food insufficiency and descent income generation in their locality.
