ILOILO City (January 30) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VI and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region Office VI recently convened to strengthen regional coordination for the implementation for the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) Program.
The meeting, led by DSWD Field Office VI Assistant Regional Director for Administration Joselito G. Estember and BJMP Field Office VI Assistant Regional Director for Operations JCSPT Vicente P. Papelera, focused on developing efficient and impactful interventions through the EPAHP Program.
Following the approval of the Joint Memorandum Circular No. 1, series of 2024, the agencies aim to harmonize activities and services to ensure continuous and effective implementation of the program.
A key component of this partnership is linking Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) engaged in agriculture and fisheries with BJMP’s forty (40) jail units across the region as potential suppliers of food products.
Providing for the basic needs of persons deprived of liberty (PDL) is a core mandate of BJMP’s Welfare and Development Division (WDD). Ensuring proper nutrition and wellness in jail facilities remains a priority, with the program supporting the provision of healthy and nutritious meals for PDLs.
JCSPT Papelera expressed strong support for the initiative, highlighting its significant benefits, particularly in expanding BJMP’s network of CBOs, including those in far-flung areas.
Also present during the meeting were Jail Officer I Refannie C. Magbanua, EPAHP Regional Program Coordinator Narlaine Gajisan, Planning and Finance Officer Jolina G. Delfin, Operations Monitoring Officer Kara Kirsten P. Montes, Capability Building and General Administration Officer Bea Trexie P. Perez, and Administrative Assistant Myra P.
