Enhancing Family Welfare: “Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RPFP) Session” Held in Legazpi City

Legazpi City, Philippines – The Commission on Population and Development (CPD) Regional Office V, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office V through the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) Regional Program Management Office (RPMO), successfully conducted a pivotal training event titled “Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RPFP) Session for Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) Community Based-Organizations (CBOs)” on September 9, 2024, at the Fiesta Ballroom Hotel, Legazpi City.

The event aimed to bolster the knowledge and understanding of responsible parenthood and family planning among participants from various community-based organizations (CBOs). The session served as a crucial platform for discussing essential topics, with the following key objectives:

  1. Enhancing Understanding of Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning: Participants gained deeper insights into the principles and practices of responsible parenthood and family planning.
  2. Emphasizing Core Concepts: The training highlighted the significance of concepts such as family, responsible parenting, human sexuality, fertility, and family planning, stressing their role in achieving fertility intentions and ensuring a nurturing, secure environment for children and families.
  3. Identifying Government Services and Programs: Attendees learned about available government services and programs related to responsible parenthood, family planning, and other related support.

The session featured two comprehensive topics, each delivered by esteemed resource persons from CPD Region V:

  • Responsible Parenthood: Covered across six sessions, this segment included topics such as Duties and Responsibilities of Parents, Effective Parent-Child Communication, Rights of the Child, Home Management, and available services for responsible parenthood. The discussions were led by Camille M. Canon, Population Program Worker II of CPD Region V.
  • Planning the Family: Comprising four sessions, this topic addressed Human Sexuality, Fertility Awareness, Family Planning, and FP Services at Public Health Facilities. Marvin L. Balingbing, Population Program Worker II of CPD Region V, provided valuable insights and guidance.

Participants expressed their profound appreciation for the training, noting how it enriched their understanding of their roles within their families and in the community as well. Many committed to sharing their newfound knowledge with their respective communities and associations, ensuring the benefits of the training extend beyond the event itself.

The event underscored the commitment of CPD and DSWD through the EPAHP program to empower communities through education and support in responsible parenthood and family planning, further contributing to the overall well-being and development of families in the region.
