DSWD Offers its Feeding Programs as Market for IP Groups

Quezon City - DSWD IV-A recently held an exploratory discussion with National Commission of Indigenous Peoples Region IV-A (NCIP IV-A) last 17 May 2024 at the NCIP Regional Office in Quezon City.  The aim of the discussion is to ensure that the indigenous people’s (IP) groups are offered the same market opportunities as the other food producers of CALABARZON in terms of linkage with the DSWD Feeding

Programs.  Dr. Carlos Buasen, the Regional Director of NCIP IV-A, met with the DSWD Team, involved in its 4ps and food security programs, to discuss strategies on how to ensure that there is a market for the agricultural products of IP groups engaged in food production.    Dr. Buasen stressed, “We need a culturally sensitive response that adheres to the values and beliefs of the indigenous community.  Any intervention should also respect the IP groups’ governing political body.”  The discussion revolved around mapping the resources within the IP communities, including IP groups who can be tapped as possible source of food supply for feeding programs.

DSWD IV-A implements the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP), a convergence program with the goal of promoting food and nutrition security.  In CALABARZON, 17 regional line agencies have committed to support the implementation of the program.  For more information, visit www.epahp.org.- with contributions from MMLamug.
