Mati City Takes the Lead: Davao Oriental's Pride at Walang Gutom Awards

The City of Mati, Davao Oriental was chosen along with nine other LGUs throughout the country as the winners of the first Walang Gutom Awards of the national government. It was Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat who accepted the award in Malacañang on June 26, 2024.

From more than one hundred who submitted their entry for the first Walang Gutom Awards of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, 17 LGUs were selected as national finalists where one of the selected was the City of Mati LGU and the Municipality of Asuncion, Davao del Norte.

Maternal, Mental, Nutrition Recovery (MMNR) Family Care-avan is the entry of LGU Mati that started in 2022 and continues currently.

The goal of the MMNR Care-avan is to provide general government services to residents living in remote areas or geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. Instead of the resident going to the City Hall, the LGU itself goes to the remote barangays to deliver government services. This includes the feeding program for children and the distribution of nutritious foods or crops that can be planted at home to ensure adequate food supply.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. personnally presented the award to the ten winners. Apart from the recognition, there is also a cash incentive amounting Php2,000,000 that will be given through Sustainable Livelihood Program.

Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat is very grateful for the award and recognition of the national government for the efforts of the City of Mati LGU to reduce the incidence of poverty and malnutrition in the city. President Bongbong Marcos also thanked the LGUs for their efforts to help the people in their areas.

According to the President, one of the legacies he wants to leave to the Filipino people is that there will be no more hungry Filipinos at the end of his administration.
