The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI through the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) has successfully conducted a series of Social Preparation Activities to prepare the community based organizations for the market linkage projects to its partners from July to August 2024 in Davao Region in participation of the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP).
These activities are aimed at preparing local farmers and small livelihood associations for their participation in the implementation of Negotiated Procurement-Community Participation (NP-CP) under SFP in the Davao Region. The community-based organizations are the potential suppliers of vegetables, fruits, eggs, meats, and other dry goods for the 14th Feeding Cycle to identified Local Government Units (LGUs).
The Social Preparation Activities which are critical components of the implementation of NP-CP are designed to empower local communities by equipping them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and understanding to effectively engage in the procurement process. Focus group discussions to level off and manage expectations with LGUs and their people along with food hygiene and safety training were simultaneously conducted.
During the process, the DSWD FO XI emphasizes inclusivity and ensures that all community segments, including marginalized, and vulnerable groups represented and have the opportunity to engage in the process. This inclusive approach is in line with the EPAHPโs broader goals of reducing hunger and poverty by enhancing the capacity of communities to manage and sustain development projects. The sessions were met with positive feedback from participants, who expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to learn and contribute to the procurement process.
