The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI participated in the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Government Network Meeting by the National Nutrition Council XI on September 30, 2024, in Davao City.
The SUN Movement envisions a world free from malnutrition, in all its forms by 2030, advocating for collective action to ensure every child, adolescent, mother, and family can access their right to food and nutrition. Hence, the meetingโs agenda focused on the SUN movement and the Regional Plan of Action for Nutrition (RPAN) 2023-2028. It also emphasized the necessity of multi-sectoral approaches to nutrition.
Programs involved were the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP), Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP), Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan - Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS), and Disaster Response and Management Division (DRMD).
Along with the discussions, the EPAHP XI Regional Convergence Team committed to integrating programs, activities, and projects within the RPAN 2023-2028 to achieve nutrition goals across agriculture, health, education, and social protection.
Participants from various agencies were present at the event, including the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). Representatives from these offices also expressed their strong support for all the agreements established during the meeting.
The fight against malnutrition is a pressing issue that demands the active involvement of all sectors. In this context, DSWD plays a vital role in implementing programs that tackle the root causes of malnutrition while providing essential support to vulnerable communities. This effort is bolstered by fostering collaboration, raising awareness, and promoting access to nutritious food.
